Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter) has banned more than 500,000 accounts in India between January 26 and February 25, according to a Reuters report. The accounts were found to be in violation of the platform's policies.
The social media giant banned 506,173 accounts for promoting child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. Additionally, 1,982 accounts were suspended for promoting terrorism.
In total, X banned 508,155 accounts in India during this period. The platform also received 14,421 complaints from Indian users through its grievance redressal mechanisms and addressed 41 requests related to account suspensions.
The company stated, "We overturned 1 of these account suspensions after reviewing the specifics of the situation. The remaining reported accounts remain suspended."
Furthermore, X received 71 requests related to general questions about accounts during this reporting period.
This recent action is not an isolated incident. Between December 26 and January 25, X banned approximately 231,215 accounts in India. During the same timeframe, 1,945 accounts were banned for promoting terrorism.
