Madrid will stage the 2027 men's Champions League final, UEFA confirmed on Thursday, after Atlético Madrid's Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium overcame opposition from the Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan, to host the showpiece fixture.
UEFA also confirmed that Warsaw's National Stadium will stage the women's final in 2027.
Milan's San Siro Stadium had initially been selected to stage the men's final, but UEFA withdrew hosting rights in September 2024 after the Italian city had been unable to deliver assurances that the stadium -- the home of Inter Milan and AC Milan -- would be in a fit state to host the game due to possible reconstruction work at the 99-year-old venue.
After re-opening the bidding process for the 2027 final in October 2024, UEFA only received two applications, from Madrid and Baku, before awarding the game to Madrid following an Executive Committee meeting in Tirana, Albania.
The 70,692-capacity stadium, which opened in 2017, is home to LaLiga club Atlético and previously hosted the 2019 Champions League final which resulted in a 2-0 win for Liverpool against Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The 2027 final will be the sixth time Madrid has hosted showpiece event of Europe's top men's club competition, with only London (eight) being awarded the game more often than the Spanish capital.
The 2026 final will be staged in Budapest, Hungary, for the first time, with the Puskas Arena due to stage the game on May 30, 2026. This season's women's final will take place in Norway at Oslo's Ullevaal Stadion.
UEFA has also confirmed the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria, has been selected to host the 2026 men's Super Cup.
